Mayor’s Deceptive AI RobocallS

NEW YORK CITY MAYOR ERIC ADAMS USES AI FOR ROBOCALLS IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been using artificial intelligence to make robocalls in languages he doesn’t speak. The robocalls have been used to promote city hiring events and sent out in languages such as Mandarin and Yiddish. However, the calls do not disclose that the mayor only speaks English or that they were generated using AI.
This use of AI in robocalls raises ethical questions about the government’s use of the technology. A watchdog group called the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project criticized the robocalls as unethical and misleading.
In response to concerns about deceptive AI-generated content, Google has implemented new labels on political advertisements with deceptive AI-generated content. Facebook and Meta (formerly known as Facebook) also have policies restricting manipulated audio and imagery.
Furthermore, a bipartisan bill in the U.S. Senate aims to ban materially deceptive deepfakes related to federal candidates.
Technology companies have also recently developed AI tools for synthetic speech translation and voice dubbing. Spotify introduced an AI feature that translates podcasts into multiple languages using podcasters’ voices. Similarly, ElevenLabs introduced a voice translation tool to convert spoken content into another language while preserving the original speaker’s voice.
Mayor Adams defended his use of AI, stating that he wants to reach New Yorkers in the languages they understand

AI’S IMPACT ON THE GAMING INDUSTRY
Online casinos are experiencing projected growth in revenue, thanks to the loosening of government regulations and technological advancements like AI. In casinos, AI can use predictive analytics to analyze customer behavior and offer personalized recommendations, bonuses, and rewards. This enhances the overall user experience and increases customer satisfaction.
Furthermore, AI algorithms can enhance security in casinos by detecting patterns of fraudulent activities and unauthorized access. With its ability to process large amounts of data quickly and accurately, AI is a valuable tool for ensuring the safety and integrity of online gambling platforms.
In addition to online casinos, AI has significantly contributed to the gaming industry. AI is used to create intelligent and dynamic behaviors for NPCs (non-player characters) in video games, making gameplay more realistic and immersive.
Procedural content generation is another area where AI shines. Game developers can dynamically generate game content such as maps, levels, quests, and even entire worlds using AI algorithms. This not only saves time but also allows for endless possibilities in terms of gameplay experiences.
AI-driven procedural narrative generation is yet another way that AI impacts gaming. By analyzing player choices and actions in real-time, AI can create dynamic storylines that adapt based on individual player preferences.
Overall, AI’s role in the gaming industry is multifaceted and transformative. It contributes to improved user experiences through enhanced gameplay mechanics, intelligent NPCs, dynamic narratives, and more.

AI-Assisted Assassination: Mossad’s Remote-Controlled Gun

HAMAS WAR HIGHLIGHTS ISRAEL’S CUTTING-EDGE AI MILITARY TECH
In a recent audacious operation, the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad utilized cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. This incident highlights Israel’s commitment to becoming an “AI superpower” in defense.
The operation was carried out using a remote-controlled machine gun with AI capabilities. The machine gun, capable of firing 600 rounds per minute, was transported in parts and reassembled in Iran without any physical presence of Israeli agents. Additional cameras were strategically placed on a truck, and a fake disabled car was used for identification.
The assassin monitored the situation from over 1,000 miles away, adjusting the machine gun’s sights and firing using artificial intelligence. Fakhrizadeh was hit at least once, and his vehicle exploded after the attack.
Israel has also revealed its usage of generative AI by its security agency, Shin Bet, to counteract significant threats. This platform helps analyze surveillance data and detect anomalies efficiently, enhancing national security measures.
These incidents demonstrate Israel’s prioritization of knowledge-building on machine learning and algorithm-driven warfare. Their investment in AI technologies showcases their commitment to cutting-edge military technology for ensuring safety and security.

Auto-CoT: AI’s Reasoning Revolution

PrROMPT ENGINEERING TECHNIQUES TO BOOST LLM MODELS
Prompt engineering is a field within AI that focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of language models. Using high-quality prompts, AI models can generate more accurate and relevant responses.
LET’S THINK STEP BY STEP
Adding “Let’s think step by step” to a prompt can force the model to break down a task into multiple steps, improving accuracy. This technique helps improve the way language models (LLMs) interact with users and enhances their capabilities.
FEW-SHOT PROMPTING
Few-shot prompting involves providing the model with a few examples of the desired output to guide its response. This technique allows direct communication with AI models and ensures contextually relevant outputs.
CHAIN OF THOUGHT (COT) PROMPTING
Chain of Thought (CoT) prompting instructs the model to undergo several reasoning stages before responding. Auto-CoT is a method that combines language models with the “Let’s think step by step” prompt to generate reasoning chains for different problems automatically.
SELF-CONSISTENCY TECHNIQUE
Self-consistency is a prompt engineering technique that improves CoT prompting for complex reasoning problems. It involves sampling from various reasoning paths to solve a problem and selecting the most consistent path. This technique bolsters commonsense reasoning and improves the outputs of LLMs.

US Tightens AI Chip Restrictions

THE US JUST ESCALATED ITS AI CHIP WAR WITH CHINA
The US government has tightened its restrictions on exports of chips and chipmaking equipment to prevent Chinese companies from accessing advanced technology. The new restrictions include rules for reporting sales of advanced chips, controls on chipmaking equipment and design software sales, and prevention of Chinese companies obtaining chips through foreign subsidiaries.
Last year’s restrictions prevented the sale of powerful AI training chips, but Chinese tech companies have reportedly placed orders for alternative chips that skirted the previous rules. The new rules will prohibit the sale of chips based on computing speed and power density, potentially targeting the H800 chip.
The tighter controls on chipmaking equipment are seen as equally important as the rules on AI training chips. However, the Semiconductor Industry Association expresses concern over the new restrictions, suggesting that broad controls may harm the US semiconductor industry without enhancing national security.
US chip restrictions may have inadvertently helped boost China’s domestic chip industry, as seen with Huawei’s use of a 7-nanometer chip manufactured by SMIC. The tighter controls come at a sensitive diplomatic moment as the US seeks to improve relations with China.

UK Public’s Confidence Gap in AI Technology

Understanding and Trusting AI: A Study on the UK Public’s Confidence in Adopting AI Technologies
A recent study by BSI Group reveals a significant confidence gap among the UK public when adopting AI in healthcare, food safety, and sustainability sectors. The study found that 54% of UK respondents are excited about AI’s potential in medical diagnoses, while 43% welcome its role in reducing food waste.
However, the lack of trust in AI could hinder its integration into the National Health Service (NHS), which faces challenges due to the COVID-19 backlog and an aging population. Only 20% of respondents have more confidence in AI than humans when detecting food contamination issues.
The study highlights the need for education as well. It shows that 65% of respondents believe patients should be informed about using AI tools in diagnosis or treatment. Additionally, 60% believe consumers need protections regarding AI technologies.
Collaboration and establishing frameworks are necessary to address these concerns and bridge the confidence gap. The study calls for international guidelines to ensure the safe use of AI. It emphasizes the importance of partnerships like BSI’s involvement with the UK Government’s global AI Safety Summit scheduled for November 2023.
